Jan 10, 2014 Essentially what this all boils down to is how fast you swing the clubhead. The BiO Cell+ driver requires a faster swing speed as.

Cobra Golf has done their best to become a major player when it comes to golf club innovation and technologies. I think it is clear that they one of the elites when it comes to making a quality golf club. When word came out that Cobra Golf was coming out with another driver after the AMP Cell driver, I was a bit surprised. The Cobra AMP Cell drivers were such a hit with consumers that I figured they would just roll with the AMP Cell for a bit. But little did I know that Cobra had something better up their sleeves. The all new Bio Cell Driver, which is equipped with their MyFly8 and SmartPad technology allows 8 adjustable loft setting, which is the big thing these days when it comes to drivers. In this review of the Cobra Bio Cell Driver I hope to give you a little better insight on the new technology and how it performs on the course. Let’s get started.
Technology:
Like I mentioned before, the Bio Cell driver comes with the MyFly8 and SmartPad technology for adjustable settings for all golfers. The Bio Cell is considered a Game Improvement Driver and Cobra’s goal is to make drives a bit easier for you. They also have a Crown Cell weighting and Forged E9 Bio Cell face technologies that are supposed to reduce the weight in the crown and face to deliver a lower CG, higher MOI and thus faster ball speeds. Their ultimate goal was to create the largest “Sweet Spot” ever for longer and straighter drives. So let’s see how all this new tech performs. Note: The Bio Cell has higher loft options than the Bio Cell+. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.
Loft Options: 9.0° / 9.5° / 9.5° Draw / 10.5° / 10.5° Draw / 11.5° / 11.5° Draw / 12.0°*
Looks:
Cobra Golf blows any other company away with it’s customization options on their drivers. They have five color options: Blue Aster, Barbados Red, Vibrant orange, Silver and new to the line up – Black. I love a black driver and really have never been one for colors and flash, but holy smokes Batman, these clubs look amazing! The color options and finishes on the Bio Cell’s are amazing! As you can see from the photo above there is a slight, Leopard finish, in the crown, which I happen to really like. Also you have the white Cobra logo as your alignment tool. I’m sure how much that is going to help you but at least you know where your center is when at address. When looking at the face of the Bio Cell driver you will notice a large oval “sweet spot” that you can use for a reference on where you are hitting the ball. Keep the ball in that “Sweet Spot” and you will do just fine. As far as looks are concerned you won’t find a cooler looking club on the market.
Feel:

With a light crown and the Project X PXV Graphite Shaft, this club is light and fast. I have mentioned in some past driver reviews that I don’t like a driver to be overly light because I just feel like I have no control. The Cobra Bio Cell was light, but not excessively light like some of last years OEM models. It had a very nice sound at impact, not too loud and not too soft. My staff knows I can’t stand a loud club. I liked how solid the clubface felt at impact, especially on good contact hits. You definitely feel the ball popping off the face. On mis-hits on the toe and heel you will hear a little different sound letting you know you hit a bad one. The only issue I have there is that my friends will know too. Ha. In all seriousness the Bio Cell driver has a solid yet forgiving feel to it. It comes with the Cobra Lamkin REL 3GEN 360 – Black Grip, which is a very solid grip. Lamkin Grips has some of the best on the market and this grip is no exception.
Performance:
The Bio Cell is pretty darn accurate in my opinion. I was able to replicate my slight driver fade time and time again with no problem. Also I was able to hit some long and straight bombs as well. If you want to hit this driver way off the fairway you have to really get a good mis-hit or just completely close or open the face of your club. I was testing the Bio Cell out at the same time I was testing out the Bio Cell+ and have to say it was just a tad bit more forgiving than the Bio Cell+, which it is supposed to be. I don’t play a draw very well, but our Staff Writer Matt Delancey does, who was there with me testing the Bio Cell out. Matt was absolutely bombing draw after draw with no problem at all and I was able to work my baby fade with no problem. For a Game Improvement Driver it performed great as far as working the ball goes. The Bio Cell driver is one of the longer hitting drivers I have hit this year. The ball was coming off the face hot and I was hitting it just as far as any other driver the day we were testing. The day of testing we had the SLDR, Xhot2, Covert 2.0 and 588 Custom drivers with us and the Bio Cell driver was just as long if not longer than the others. I have heard a few people say they have struggled with getting this driver up in the air. To that I say you need a new golf swing. This club is a high performing beast that will get your ball into the air and long down the fairways.
Pros/Cons:
Pros: The Cobra Bio Cell driver is long, accurate and pretty forgiving. You will have the brightest looking driver on the golf course and will be able to hit with the best of them.
Cons: Some people might not like all the flashy colors, which is why Cobra came out with a black model this year. Also, there a few other drivers on the market that I feel are a bit more forgiving. Not that the Bio Cell isn’t forgiving because it is very forgiving. I just think there are a few others out there a slightly bit more.

Overall:
The Cobra Bio Cell driver is one of the best drivers I have hit in 2014. It falls into my top 5 for sure. I was very impressed with the distance I was getting with it along with the accuracy. One other aspect that I think will surprise most is the ability to work the ball.
